The new lecture “New Venture Creation” will provide a broad coverage of the challenges involved in (high-technology-) entrepreneurship. It is structured in four parts:
Part 1 will deal with core issues involved in deciding to pursue an entrepreneurial vision and with the characteristics that are vital to success from the very beginning.
Part 2 examines the major strategic decisions entrepreneurs have to take, such as, how to balance risk and return? How to protect intellectual property?
In Part 3 the operational and organizational challenges of entrepreneurs are discussed.
Part 4 deals with financial planning, funding strategies, including negotiations with investors, contractual issues and exit.
“New Venture Creation” provides an action-oriented approach to the subject through the use of examples and exercises. The concepts are illustrated with examples from the early stages of well known firms like Microsoft, Google and Starbucks. Numerous video clips with comments by entrepreneurs, investors and teachers highlight specific sections and cases. One case study about an actual biotechnology firm, AgraQuest, runs from one session to the next.
At the same time the most valuable entrepreneurship theories from some of the world’s leading scholars, educators and authors are integrated, thus providing an ideal balance between theory and practice.
Course language is English.
